The first step to this project was brianstorming as a class all the world problems we have. From there everyone individually picked a problem that they were most interested in. After this we got into groups with other students who shared the same interests. My groups world problem was air pollution. In my opinion air pollution is a very serious problem and it is only growing worse. I believe we need to start doing something now to help reduce the pollutants we release into the air. For several weeks we did lots of research to gain as much knowledge as we good about our topic. Then we came up with a solution to help reduce the amount of air pollution in our air. We came up with a magnetic levitation train. These trains run on railways and use magnets to propel them. They produce no harmful emissions and can carry very heavy loads. These trains can reach speeds up to 375 mph, this means you can get places very fast! Magnetic Levitation Trains are the new, very effect way to travel.
How a Magnetic Levitation Train works The answer is actually quite simple. A maglev consists of multiple magnets lined up on the track that create a passive repulsive magnetic field underneath the train. In electromagnetic systems, there are electromagnets that would effectively pull the train forward, and they are active for short periods of time. MagLevs can accelerate at extremely high speeds with no friction because of the design.
Here is our slide show presentation explaining our problem and how to solve it.
Reflection
I think my group did very good research as well as have a strong presentation. We all spent a lot of time thoroughly learning about air pollution so we could be experts when we finished this project. We also spent a lot of time learning about the magnetic levitation train and how it works. We used a 3D printed to print blue prints of what our train would look like and how it would rest on the rails. Everyone in my group put a lot of handwork into this project and no one was slacking! Overall we spent a lot of time on this project and we were all very happy with our outcome.
This project had a big impact on me because I learned how much we humans pollute our air, and how it has such a big effect on the environment. I learned how in some parts of the world people have to wear masks when they go outside because the air is so polluted. After learning all of this I try avoiding driving to near by places, and I educate others on the benefits of riding a bike or walking to near by places. I think my group did a great job on this project and there weren't any downsides of it.
